Silence Culture: A Tranquil Fusion of Tradition and Contemporary Design

Creating a Tranquil Sanctuary with Innovative Dining Spaces

Employing wooden structural features suggestive of the Tang Dynasty along a central axis that unfolds sequentially incorporating post and beam construction, walls, doors, and windows having layered facades with linear juxtaposition to extend the decorative charm. Add to this an Edo era courtyard structural style to create a tranquil sanctuary having deeply soothing cultural overtones with deft evocation of spatial divisions that stretches the new concepts in innovative dining spaces.

Natural media textures offset by blue lighting extend, penetrate, concentrate and the lines between surfaces, smoothly fusing stylish contemporary architecture with the meandering serenity of an Edo era garden. By way of this detail-oriented attitude, new and old are harmoniously combined with each successfully imbuing the other with interest.

The Silence Culture design, created by Frankie Yu, is a unique and captivating restaurant that blends traditional Japanese elements with modern aesthetics. Inspired by the Tang Dynasty and the Edo era, this design showcases wooden structural features along a central axis, creating a sequential unfolding of post and beam construction, walls, doors, and windows. The layered facades with linear juxtaposition add a decorative charm, while the Edo era courtyard style evokes a tranquil sanctuary with deeply soothing cultural overtones.

What sets Silence Culture apart is its innovative approach to dining spaces. The design incorporates natural media textures, such as marble, tinted mirrors, cedar panels, and bamboo strips, which are offset by blue lighting. This combination creates a mesmerizing fusion of contemporary architecture and the serene ambiance of an Edo era garden. The attention to detail in this design is evident, as every element is carefully chosen to harmoniously blend the old with the new.

The design team, led by Frankie Yu and Guru Interior Design Consultant, utilized a variety of materials to bring Silence Culture to life. From marble and frosted glass to traditional handmade roofing tiles and antefix, each element contributes to the overall aesthetic and atmosphere of the restaurant. The result is a space that transports diners to a peaceful lakeshore, with rounded lighting representing the moon reflecting the bamboo forest on the lake.

Despite the challenges of blending a "Silence" scene into a crowded shopping mall, the design team successfully completed the project within a limited timeframe. Communication with both the client and the mall manager was crucial, as was the careful selection of materials. The end result is a design that not only captures the essence of Japanese culture but also provides a serene and inviting dining experience.

Silence Culture has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2016 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of Silence Culture has been respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its visitors.
